Putting rivalry aside for a worthy cause

This Friday, supporters of traditional football rivals Southampton and Portsmouth will put aside their differences and join together to fundraise for an Armed Forces Charity.

The ‘Scummers and Skates unite’ event is in memory of Guardsman Jamie Janes, who lost his life to an IED whilst on deployment with the Grenadier Guards in Afghanistan. The Grenadiers have posted the following video on YouTube as a memorial to their fallen comrade.

Jamie’s mother, Jacqui, has set up the GDSM Jamie Janes Trust to help Jamie’s fellow servicemen who have been injured in the Army and returned home to face a very different world to that they are used to.

Many miss the comradeship and togetherness of the forces when they leave, especially those who have been either physically injured or who suffer the trauma of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) from exposure to the hardships of combat.

This Good Friday at 10am, Southampton fans will set out from St Mary’s Stadium and Portsmouth fans from Fratton Park and meet in the middle on a sponsored walk. If you would like to join in and help a worthy cause, then please meet up with the ordinary citizens, ex-servicemen and ex-professional footballers who will be making the walk at either of the stadiums. Alternatively, you can donate to the trust and help them to make a difference for those who have returned but for whom life can never be the same at –
